Last weekend, the Sei Boku Bonsai Kai held their 33rd annual exhibit at the San Mateo Garden Center in San Mateo, California. The event included bonsai displays, outdoor vendor area and demonstration and workshop by Dennis Makishima.
Attendance was good and the weather could not have been better. I was there for the whole event as a vendor and had a fantastic time.
Sei Boku counts, among its members, some of the more serious enthusiasts in the Bay Area. Their exhibit reflected this. As I haven’t covered the event before, here’s a larger than usual selection of the trees on display – please enjoy!
Satsuki azalea
Japanese maple
California juniper
Bald cypress
Hinoki cypress
Hinoki saikei
I included a shot of the name cards as they were very well done.

Kathleen O'Donnell says
I’m curious; how did the tip jar work? Was it to collect money or tips from the audience on how to improve the tree?
Jonas Dupuich says
There was one jar for each of the major presidential candidates.
