Last weekend, Bay Island Bonsai held its 11th annual exhibit in Pleasanton, CA. It was a huge success. After 10 years of hosting our exhibit in Hayward, we were uncertain about switching venues. Turns out this was our top-attended event. Thanks to all who visited and all who helped.
I’ll be writing a number of posts about the exhibit, but since BIB has long been known as a black pine club, I thought I’d start with photos of a few of the black pines on display.

I am curious about the description of Slant style for all but the first tree. They appear to be Informal Upright style?

Thanks Mark – there’s a fine line between informal upright and slant style. I actually don’t go in for style much but chose slant simply because the apex didn’t appear “exactly” over the base of the tree. In hindsight I’d go with informal upright because that better characterizes the trees’ movement.

Waiting with anticipation for more. I especially appreciate seeing the complete displays – Boon is a master of the finer points of composing the complete layout. It’s very interesting to see how and which scrolls and accent pots were chosen and positioned…

the 4th one from the top, that bunjin was not shown. i had to take it back because there were a few trees that showed up late.
