BABA Annual Exhibit
The Bay Area Bonsai Associates (BABA) held their 27th annual show at Lakeside Garden Center in Oakland, California this past weekend. The event kicked off with their well-reknown reception and demo Saturday night, this year provided by Boon Manakitivipart, and continued through Sunday.
The exhibit was an unquestionable success, featuring a good mix of varieties that included trees from California and beyond, including this fine shimpaku:

The tree won the National Bonsai Award at the inaugural National Bonsai Exhibit in Washington D.C. last fall. Congratulations again Jim!
I can’t over-emphasize how quickly BABA’s collection has been developing over the past few years. Going to this show provides a super example of the difference good bonsai work – and attention to detail – can make on a collection.

Of course, it’s always fun to see familiar faces too.
