Bonsai pots from Japan

July 22, 2009 by Jonas Dupuich

Akio Kondo, senpai to Boon and a fellow student of Kihachiro Kamiya, is in town to do bonsai for a month. Summer is slow for bonsai professionals in Japan which makes it a good time for them to visit. Akio will very busy here wiring and styling trees and leading a few workshops. He also brought several beautiful old pots with him. My favorite features frogs.

Hi great photos. These are not actually antique pots as they are made by Tsukinowa-Yusen son. His father is an incredible pot maker and currently the most valuable in Japan due to the forgeries of Tokufuji’s pots.

Here is a link to his father’s pot: http://www.remus.dti.ne.jp/~masumi-t/yusen2.html

Regardless these are wonderful pots fashioned after his very famous father and very costly. His father’s pots start at around $4,500 per pot and go up very quickly in price.
