Shinpukuji Temple Bonsai Museum

February 17, 2015 by Jonas Dupuich

Just outside the city of Okazaki, itself outside the larger city of Nagoya, lies Shinpukuji Temple, a complex first built in the 6th century and home to an impressive bonsai museum. The museum was started by Mr. Oomura, a prominent bonsai collector and enthusiast. Here are some highlights from the trees on display last fall – thanks to Boon Manakitivipart for the photos.

Thanks for these pix! This is one of my favorite collections, settings, and that first shimpaku is one of my favorite bonsai. Interesting to see it opened up a bit. Usually it’s very full.
