East Bay Bonsai Society’s 54th Bonsai Show

October 27, 2015 by Jonas Dupuich

The East Bay Bonsai Society held their 54th bonsai show earlier this month at the Lakeside Garden Center in Oakland, California. The show features quite different trees from year to year – this year’s event featured a lot of conifers. Here are some of the highlights.

I noticed the amount of moss growing on the roots and trunks of the back pine. What is your opinion of this?

Hi Carolee – it’s not desirable to have moss growing on pine bark or roots as the additional moisture can hasten the deterioration of the bark. Once it’s there, it can be hard to remove. Some of my trees have it too – it can be hard to keep the moss at bay, especially at this time of year as moss growth accelerates in the Bay Area.
