Small trees at their best – shohin bonsai on display at the 2017 WBC

June 23, 2017 by Jonas Dupuich

The shohin bonsai got a lot of attention at the 8th World Bonsai Convention. One of the most impressive was a shimpaku juniper with beautiful deadwood.

The shohin on display represented a number of different sizes and styles. The quality was high throughout.

White pine

It was also fun to appreciate some of the deciduous varieties in spring. I can’t imagine how tricky it was to get the leaf size and density just right for a late April exhibit.

Trident maple

The displays themselves were impressive too.

Note the contrast among the size, shape and color of the pots, the styles of the stands and the character of the foliage.
