Planning a successful trip to the Pacific Bonsai Expo

October 4, 2022 by Jonas Dupuich

The 2022 Pacific Bonsai Expo is only five weeks away! Here are some tips to ensure a successful visit.

1. Purchase Tickets in Advance

Tickets are available for Sunday, November 13th at the Expo website. Although Saturday tickets are sold out (thank you for the support!), you can attend Saturday by volunteering, sponsoring a prize, or making a donation (see the Expo website for details about which donations qualify for passes).

2. Carpool or Rideshare

Parking is extremely limited at the venue, so your best bet is to carpool with at least 3-4 people per vehicle or use rideshare services like Uber, Lyft, or taxicab.

  • If you are staying in a nearby hotel, we strongly encourage you to use rideshare services.
  • If you are a local bonsai enthusiast or volunteer, we strongly encourage you to carpool with 3-4 people per vehicle or use a rideshare service.

If you are coming from a distance and find that no parking is available at the venue, we recommend parking in Emeryville where there are lots near Bay Street or the Emeryville Public Market.

3. Bring Food

There’s no food at the venue, so plan accordingly. Nearby lunch options are numerous in Emeryville near Bay Street or at the Emeryville Public Market. You can also bring a lunch.

For those of you who can’t attend this year, you can find event t-shirts online and pre-order the exhibit catalog.

Is it feasible to walk from the Hyatt to the Bridge Yard? It looks like it is about 1 mile and over half of it may be along the Bay Bridge Trail from Google Maps.

Hi Marty – I walked from the hotel to the venue today and can report it’s a pleasant walk! It took 45 minutes – here’s a video showing what the path looks like: https://youtu.be/ib7N3WGsF3w

Are there going to be workshops with trees and instructors? If so, when will we know?

Hi Robert! There will be no workshops at the event but there may be lectures. We’re also planning docent tours Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

Congrats to you and Eric on having the tickets selling out and the show continue to gain momentum. It is a bit of a trek but I am coming in from Toronto (member of the Toronto Bonsai Society where you have virtually presented a few times ) to see the show – luckily I bought tickets for both days yesterday. Both the Mirai and Bonsai Wire podcasts painted an amazing location/thoughtful process behind the show’s creation. Look forward to seeing the show and hopefully saying hello to you and Eric.

Thanks, Gary – we’re looking forward to seeing you! Feel free to search us out and say hi when you’re here, it’d be great to catch up in person.

    Hi Jonas!
Is there going to be parking for Handicapped access???
    Thanks!

Hi KD! There is limited accessible parking at the venue, at the overflow lot, and near the hotel where the shuttle departs. These spaces may fill up quickly so we suggest arriving early to take advantage of them.
