I had the fortune to visit Australia last month. After a long, sleepless flight, I arrived in Sydney unable to check into my hotel for several hours. So I wandered around. Just five minutes from the hotel, I stumbled into Sydney’s Chinese Garden of Friendship. And right inside the front gate, I found myself in the “Penjing Courtyard.” I found it funny that my first photos of Australia featured small trees in pots.

The rest of the garden was a pleasure – a perfect way to while away the warm afternoon.

Hello Bonsai tonight,
This is Philippe Tot of The Lingnan Penjing Academy of Australia. I am based is Sydney Australia.
I am the original creator of The Penjing in the Chinese Gardens. Also the Former Curator of the Chinese Garden of Friendship.
I was the Penjing Caretaker from 1992 -2010.
So I built the collection for over 18 years.
These photos are the 1st I’ve seen of my old trees in over a year and frankly, I am shocked & saddened at the drop of standard and health of them. I can see that are not being cared for very well since I resigned to teach full time back in June 2010.
If you wish to see better photos of them in optimum health and standards, over the years please visit;
