Mansai-en bonsai garden

September 20, 2011 by Jonas Dupuich

Here are some photos from Mansai-en Bonsai Garden in Omiya Bonsai Village. The garden is home to Hatsuji Kato and his son Haruhiko. Hatsuji is son of the late Saburo Kato, founding member and longtime chair of the Nippon Bonsai Association. The garden and  home has been redesigned since my visit in 1999 – it’s looking great!

    Yes you are correct.

This is Mansei-en Bonsai Garden in Omiya Bonsai Village in Japan. It is the home of Hatsuji Kato and his son Haruhiko.

Their garden was redesigned and the home/reception room were built about four years ago.

You should mention too what happened to some of the trees, due to the redesign and copper! Poisoning. A tragedy for sure. The late Kato-Sans book, and his passages about how those ezo-matsu(shown in the Yose-ue section above) transported him back to collecting trips with his father touchéd the deepest of my bonsai heart. The video of Mr Kato speaking about collecting these trees (google it) made me tear up too, even though I kmew the jist of the story!
